Wednesday, November 11th skies over Barnett Reservoir will be lit by fireworks and Old Trace Park will be filled with music to honor our military heroes who have served, and are currently serving in the U.S. armed forces.
The events open with a fly-over by the Commemorative Air Force - Mississippi Wing at 4:00 p.m. and Patriot Guard Riders on roadways leading to Old Trace Park in Ridgeland. Music by Soul Stew starts at 5:00 p.m. and the fireworks show at 8:00 p.m. Food and beverage vendors will be in the park, and no outside food or beverage allowed in. The event will observe Covid 19 protocols.
The Barnett Reservoir Foundation is sponsoring all events which are free to the general public to honor all our Veterans. Parking in the main lot inside the park will be limited to staff, veterans, current military personnel, and vehicles with a state-issued handicap parking decal. The lot at Madison Landing will be available for general public parking.
“We regret that we had to cancel this summer’s Independence Celebration due to the pandemic and are happy to have this opportunity and honor to celebrate another American patriotic holiday,” said Dale Shepherd, Foundation president. “Veterans Day is another perfect opportunity to honor those who serve, while also fulfilling the Foundation’s mission to promote life at the reservoir. We will also use this event to kickoff our new ‘Rez Life’ campaign.”
The large size of Old Trace Park, over 37 acres with two large parking areas, provides ample space to create an environment meeting protocols for Covid safety. Visitors will be asked to maintain social distancing, and encouraged to wear masks. Hand sanitizing stations will be provided at several locations throughout the park.
